4/2 Important Updates from Mr. Kasper

Posted by Jason Kasper on 4/2/2020 9:00:00 AM

Good morning. A couple of things I wanted to mention:

First, as mentioned previously, I understand that each of you have different time commitments with things going on a home as a result of the Corona situation. So two important reminders: (A) This is at your own pace workload and secondly (B) these will not be live classes. To be able to get everyone together on the same page and same time, especially with your commitments and other responsibilities to classes it would be impossible to do so. So all the content will be pre-recorded so that you have all the tools you need to get the education you deserve the same way and the same quality as if we were all in the same room.

Be sure to keep up with your work, and per the standard set by the Board of Education, you will receive roughly 3 assignments a week, with at least one grade going into the grade book. That means two days during the school week, you will not get work assigned. Rather, the expectation is that you work on the assignments I place in there for you and keep a reasonable pace with them. I’ve been told that regardless of how we end the year, grades on these online assignments will apply to Skyward. Keep in mind, since we don’t know how this is going to work out with this virus, remote work may be the way we finish out the year. Please do your best to get things in order and let me know how I can help you succeed.

Even with 3 assignments assigned during the 5 day week, you are still required to go into Google Classroom and to my teacher site for updates daily.  You don’t want to miss out on vital information.

I will continue to be available from 9am to 10am AND 3pm to 4pm during the weekdays. The easiest way to reach me is to send an email which I will respond to promptly in the order I receive them.  Please allow me some time to respond. It should not take more than 24hrs.

As this is a work at your own pace structure, I have pushed out the due dates roughly a week for each assignment. I understand you have responsibilities at home and to other teachers so I want you to utilize time effectively. Make sure on the two days a week you don’t have work from me that you are working on classwork.

Make sure that you log into your student portal to verify you can access your textbook online. Please email me if you cannot.

The grading structure remains the same. You will receive the same type of assignments as you have been in class all year so far. For presentations, since none of the workload is a live presentation, you may or may not have voiceovers on the presentations.

Please reach out if you have a question about any of this. I know it is a lot of information, but I am here to help you get through this.

LASTLY - FOR THOSE WHO ARE NEW TO GOOGLE CLASSROOM HERE IS AN IMPORTANT LINK TO HELP YOU LEARN A BIT ABOUT IT. CLICK HERE.

Please let me know how I can help you. I am here for you.

Have a great day!

Mr. Kasper
