HISTORY TAKES TOP PRIORITY IN

LOCAL HISTORY DAY FAIR

Marion County – Hundreds of students in Marion County Public Schools are participating in the third annual National History Day Fair set for Wednesday, Feb. 26, from 2PM-6:30PM.

Location is Marion Technical Institute (MTI) located at 1614 E. Ft. King Street in Ocala.

This event showcases students who choose historical topics related to the theme of “Breaking Barriers in History,” then conduct primary and secondary research.  After analyzing and interpreting sources and drawing conclusions, students present their work in one of five ways:  as a written paper, a visual exhibit, an arts performance, an in-depth documentary, or an online website.

Students who place at this district-level fair advance to the state competition, Florida History Day, held May 3-5.  State winners then head to the National History Day competition at the University of Maryland, College Park, from June 14-18.

Awards will be handed out in a special ceremony set for 6PM in the MTI auditorium.
