NEW PRINCIPAL AT THE HELM OF

EAST MARION ELEMENTARY

MARION COUNTY – Superintendent Dr. Heidi Maier has appointed a new principal at East Marion Elementary, the most eastern school in all of Marion County.

Deborah Borge-Shaffer assumed the lead position on that campus when staff returned from Winter Break on Monday, January 6.

Borge-Shaffer served as the assistant principal at the school since 2017.  She joined the district in 1997 as a special needs teacher at College Park Elementary.

Borge-Shaffer also taught at Saddlewood and Hammett Bowen Elementary schools before becoming assistant principal at Eighth Street Elementary in 2012.  She moved to the AP position at East Marion three years ago.

Borge-Shaffer earned her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, and her master’s in Educational Leadership, from Saint Leo University.

She replaces Kendra Hamby, who moves to West Port High to gain experience as an administrator on assignment.
