OCALA CHRISTMAS PARADE AIRS LIVE ON
YOUTUBE AND MARION EDUCATION CHANNEL
MARION COUNTY – Marion County Public Schools is pleased to broadcast the 64th annual Ocala Christmas Parade live on television and YouTube this Saturday, December 14, starting at 5:30PM.
The annual event draws over 60,000 spectators to East Silver Springs Boulevard, many who stake claim to seats days ahead of time along the two-mile parade route.
This year’s theme is “A Small Town Christmas” and involves over 3,000 riders, marchers, and other participants. The theme was suggested by sisters Ayden and Graysyn Taylor, both students at Redeemer Christian School in Ocala. They will serve as this year’s junior grand marshals. The grand marshal is Rashad Jones of Big Lee’s Barbeque in Ocala. Jones is known for his kind nature, tasty grilled delights, and for winning a national grilling competition on the Food Network back in December 2017.
Approximately 107 units including floats, marching bands, dance troupes, baton twirling groups, motorcycle units, equine entries and more are taking part this year. The line-up also includes local dignitaries, military units, business owners, dozens of other community groups, and, of course, Santa Claus.
On-air commentators this year include 18-year veteran host Kevin Christian, Theresa Boston-Ellis, and Judi Zanetti, all representing Marion County Public Schools.
The parade airs live and in high definition on the district YouTube channel (MCPSmedia). It also airs live on the Marion Education Channel (MEC), available on more than a dozen local cable systems including Comcast Channel 99 and Cox Channel 12.
The parade replays on the MEC through January 5 every Friday and Saturday at 7PM and Sundays at 2PM. The YouTube version is available 24/7.
These broadcasts are offered as a community service by Marion County Public Schools. The Ocala Christmas Parade is organized by the Friends of the Christmas Parade, a non-profit organization made up of community volunteers.
