“DADS TAKE YOUR CHILD TO SCHOOL DAY”
SET FOR SEPT. 25
MARION COUNTY – A state-wide effort to get positive male role models more involved in students’ lives takes place on Wednesday, September 25, throughout Marion County Public Schools.
The annual “Dads Take Your Child to School Day” offers fathers, grandfathers, brothers, uncles, and other positive male role models the opportunity to spend quality time with their children while encouraging them to attend school.
Dads and others can walk, ride, bike, drive, or otherwise transport their children to school, drop them off on campus, and wish them a successful day. Some schools offer breakfast time together as well.
Florida’s Department of Education promotes the effort to get fathers and father figures involved in the education and safety of children by volunteering to serve at least one day a year in various school activities.
More than 30 years of research supports the position a positive relationship endures between increased family engagement and student academic success. Additional research underscores when fathers are actively involved in their child’s education, students perform better academically, have fewer discipline problems, and become more responsible adults.
Most Marion County public elementary schools are participating in this fifth annual event.
