School Libraries Open for Summer Reading

SCHOOL LIBRARIES OPEN FOR

SUMMER READING

 

MARION COUNTY – Nine elementary school-based media center libraries will open this summer giving parents and students opportunities to expand their literacy skills and adventures.

 

Running June 12 – July 24, each Wednesday these libraries open their doors 8AM-2PM with structured activities.  Media centers will close 11:30AM-Noon for lunch.  Participating elementary schools include:

 

  • Anthony
  • Belleview
  • Dunnellon
  • Emerald Shores
  • Fort McCoy
  • Marion Oaks
  • Oakcrest
  • Saddlewood
  • Ward-Highlands

 

Each Wednesday features scheduled activities including story time, arts and crafts, interactive activities, computer time, and checkout periods. To check out books, students must have a valid MCPS-issued ID number.

 

Each week offers a different theme based on the following schedule and books:

  • June 12 – “Splat the Cat” by Rob Scotton
  • June 19 - “Diary of a Worm” by Doreen Cronin
  • June 26 – “Pete the Cat” by Eric Litwin
  • July 3 – “Fancy Nancy” by Jane O’Conner
  • July 10 – Dr. Seuss
  • July 17 – “No, David!” by David Shannon
  • July 24 – “Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus” by Mo Willems

 

All visitors must check-in at the front office and receive a visitor’s badge. Valid photo ID is required. All students must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
