TOOLS 4 TEACHING CELEBRATES
10 YEARS OF GIVING
MARION COUNTY – Ten years ago, Tools 4 Teaching opened its doors to Marion County teachers, providing classroom supplies and other essentials free of charge.
Today, this outreach of the Public Education Foundation of Marion County has handed out $3.3 million in classroom supplies, including 1,373,399 pencils!
On March 13-14 from 3:30PM-5:30PM, the store celebrates its tenth birthday, continuing its original mission of providing access to the tools necessary to succeed in the classroom and supply needed items so teachers don’t spend their own money.
With 70 percent of Marion County students eligible for free or reduced meals, many students cannot afford to buy their own lunch. They also cannot afford their own school supplies. This is where Tools 4 Teaching steps in, supplying everything from pencils and crayons to notebooks and personal hygiene products.
Tools 4 Teaching opened in March 2009 and so far:
- Provided over $3 million in school supplies ($3,302,650 to be exact);
- Opened its doors to 35,658 teacher shopping visits; and
- Delivers supplies to 12 rural schools more than 18 miles from the store (via Lake Weir High School’s Global Logistics Career Choice Academy).
Tools 4 Teaching is a proud affiliate of The Kids in Need Foundation. Teachers throughout Marion County Public Schools shop in the store on a monthly basis.
Teachers receiving supplies from the store indicate students who receive school supplies have better attendance, better grades, and better classroom behavior.
Tools 4 Teaching is located inside the Public Education Foundation located at 1239 NW 4 Street, Ocala, 34475.
