EXPANDED MAGNET EXPO OFFERS

MULTIPLE SCHOOL CHOICE OPTIONS

MARION COUNTY – What is School Choice? What about a magnet school or magnet program?  Can your child attend one of these in Marion County? What are the qualifications? Why do they even exist?

If you’ve ever wondered about or considered such a program or school for your child, come learn the attraction of these highly-competitive options at the 13th annual Magnet Expo scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, January 9-10, 2019.

Both evening events take place from 5PM-7PM at Marion Technical Institute (MTI) located at 1614 East Fort King Street in Ocala.  Wednesday night offers elementary and middle school options.  Thursday evening offers high school options exclusively.

For the first time ever, the Magnet Expo expands into a “Magnet at the Mall” opportunity for those looking for an alternative to the two evening events.  The site for the inaugural “Magnet at the Mall” is the West Concourse near Belk in the Paddock Mall, located at 3100 SW College Road in Ocala. The Saturday, January 12, 2019 event runs 12PM-3PM.  Magnet options at all grade levels will be represented.

Public and charter schools participating in this year’s expanded Magnet Expo include:

  • Elementary: NH Jones, Madison Street Academy, Oakcrest, Reddick-Collier, South Ocala and Sunrise; McIntosh Area School;
  • Middle: Belleview, Horizon Academy at Marion Oaks, Howard, Lake Weir, North Marion; Ocali Charter;
  • High: Belleview, Dunnellon, Forest, Lake Weir, MTI, North Marion, Vanguard, West Port; and Francis Marion Military Academy.

No advance registration is required, and anyone from the public is invited to attend.  To apply for entry to magnet schools and programs, students should visit www.marionschools.net/schoolchoice.
