TEACHER RETIRES FOLLOWING INCIDENT

INVOLVING NUISANCE ANIMALS

MARION COUNTY – The teacher under investigation for killing nuisance animals inside an Agri-Science classroom at Forest High School earlier this week has retired.

After 31 years with Marion County Public Schools, Agriculture teacher Dewie Brewton submitted a signed letter to the district indicating his retirement effective immediately on Thursday, May 17, 2018.

His decision ends the school district’s investigation into his actions. However, investigations by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and the Florida Department of Health in Marion County continue.

Brewton was accused of drowning nuisance animals in front of students. Law enforcement is determining whether this teacher’s actions were legal or not.
