LOCAL ATHLETES HIT
STATE ACADEMIC SPOTLIGHT
MARION COUNTY – The Florida High School Athletic Association recognizes stellar performance on and off the field, and Marion County students are in the spotlight thanks to hard work and dedication.
West Port High’s Boys’ Soccer Team is the “State Champion” in Class 5-A with an overall un-weighted team grade point average (GPA) of 3.557.
The Academic Team Champion Awards from FHSAA honor academic efforts from athletes in the Winter Season of the Association’s sanctioned and recognized sports.
More local teams also worked hard and finished with these recognitions:
- Boys Basketball – Class 7-A, Vanguard High School, sixth place
- Girls Basketball – Class 7-A, Forest High School, fifth place
- Boys Soccer – Class 5-A, Forest High School, seventh place; Class 3-A, Vanguard High School, third place
- Girls Soccer – Class 5-A, Forest High School and West Port High School (Honorable Mention); Class 3-A, Vanguard High School (Honorable Mention)
- Girls Weightlifting – Class 2-A, Forest High School, seventh place; Vanguard High School and West Port High School (Honorable Mention)
- Competitive Cheerleading – Class 2-A, Forest High School and West Port High School (Honorable Mention); Class 1-A, Vanguard High School (Honorable Mention)
- Wrestling – Class 2-A, Forest High School (Honorable Mention)
In the FHSAA’s current overall standings (including fall and winter team GPA results) in Class 8-A, West Port High School is ranked 13th while in Class 7-A, Forest High School ranks sixth and Vanguard High School is 15th.
Marion County Public Schools congratulates and recognizes these student athletes, their coaches and classroom teachers, and entire school communities who are represented.
