SCHOOL DISTRICT CAPTURES MAJOR AWARDS IN ORLANDO
MARION COUNTY – Marion County Public Schools recently captured one “Best of Show” and two first-place Medallion Awards from SUNSPRA, the Sunshine State School Public Relations Association.
The awards, handed out in a general session at the Florida Association of School Administrators (FASA) Summer Conference in Orlando, showcase the best public relations efforts from public schools and districts throughout Florida. Founded in 1974, SUNSPRA is the leading organization of public relations professionals representing public school districts in Florida.
Marion County’s 2016 wins include:
- First place for “Attendance Matters” themed campaign – resulting in 374 more students attending class every day during the first semester;
- First place for “k12 connect” weekly video program – an 8-12 minute total redesign of the district’s 15-year-old, 30-minute monthly talk show; and
- “Best of Show” for “k12 connect” weekly video program.
Marion County tied with Brevard County Public Schools for the most awards. A total of 10 first-place and three “Best of Show” honors were given.
Districts and schools competed in two major categories – “Programs and Projects” and “Publications and PR Tools” – and various sub-categories and were scored by a judging panel independent of public schools.
Over the past 15 years, SUNSPRA has recognized Marion County Public Schools more than 40 times for its public relations efforts.
