PERFECT AUDIT FOR SCHOOL DISTRICT’S

FOOD SERVICES DEPARTMENT

MARION COUNTY – The department responsible for feeding over 44,000 students every school day earned a “no finding” or perfect score on its most recent state and federal audit.

The Food and Nutrition Services Department of Marion County Public Schools received the result recently from the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. The Department reviews school district food service operations every three years to confirm district eligibility for reimbursements from both state and federal programs.

The recent review focused on the Summer Feeding Program, which this year operated at 60 sites with 67 employees and served 164,438 total meals including 61,361 breakfasts, 94,940 lunches, and 8,137 snacks/suppers. The two-month review process also examined everything from training programs and school lunch menus to purchasing, health inspections, and financial records.

MCPS received its official “closeout” letter from the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services on Aug. 18.
