MARION COUNTY –Florida’s reigning Teacher of the Year Sarah Painter will visit Shady Hill Elementary School Friday morning just in time to experience the Third Annual Kindy 500.
The 8 a.m. event serves as an end-of-year celebration for kindergarten classes and involves parents, families, and children working together to create cars or other vehicles from cardboard boxes. These vehicles eventually show off in parade fashion in front of the entire school around the campus physical education “race track.”
Painter, a fifth-grade teacher in Pinellas County, meets privately with the school’s teaching faculty this afternoon to share her inspiration and teaching philosophy focusing on collaboration and student success.
As the 2022 Florida Teacher of the Year, Painter serves as the Christa McAuliffe Ambassador for Education, working to create greater public awareness of Florida’s outstanding teachers and elevating the education profession.
Shady Hill Elementary School is located at 5959 S. Magnolia Ave., Ocala, 34474. Marion County 2021 Teacher of the Year Christine Fernandez, a Shady Hill Elementary teacher, became friends with Painter while both competed for Florida’s top teaching honor and invited her to the school.
