NORTH MARION MIDDLE SCHOOL

WINS NATIONAL “SAY SOMETHING” AWARD

FOR SECOND CONSECUTIVE YEAR

MARION COUNTY – North Marion Middle School (NMMS) is now a two-time winner for the Sandy Hook Promise Annual Say Something Week Awards.

Selected as one of only six winning schools in the nation each year, NMMS captured this distinct honor in 2021 and 2022.

Sandy Hook Promise (SHP) is a national non-profit organization with a mission to end school shootings and create a cultural change preventing violence and other harmful acts that hurt children.

The Say Something awards recognize the creative ways schools celebrate “upstanders,” students who speak up to get help for classmates who may be in crisis and acknowledge the trusted adults keeping students safe. These awards go in tandem with SHP’s national call-to-action held each March known as Say Something Week.

Members of NMMS’s Students Against Violence Everywhere (SAVE) Club created and submitted their award-winning video available at https://vimeo.com/694040758

NMMS receives a $250 prize toward Say Something initiatives, an award certificate, and world-wide recognition on SHP’s website and social channels. Winners were selected based on videos or slideshows demonstrating student leadership, involvement, and program sustainability, along with the depth of activities students participated in during Say Something Week.
