Reopens Tomorrow Night

MARION COUNTY – The Black History Museum of Marion County will hold a special reopening event tomorrow night, Tuesday, Nov. 16, from 5:30 p.m. – 7 p.m.

Located within Howard Academy (306 NW 7th Ave., Ocala, 34475), the event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be provided.

Founded in 2004, the museum includes exhibits highlighting Florida history, Fort Mose, Black Seminoles, Federal Troops, Paradise Park, and other historical moments and figures.

In 2020, the museum was closed to the public in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. During the hiatus, the building was renovated for repairs.

After Tuesday, museum operating hours are 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. daily, Monday – Friday.  Hours could expand starting in January.

For more information, contact Dr. Stacey Reece, director of Grants and Federal Programs, at 352.671.4171 or Stacey.Reece@marion.k12.fl.us.
