MARION COUNTY – Last year, the Public Education Foundation of Marion County participated in the inaugural Give4Marion campaign, hosted by the Ocala Marion County Community Foundation, which supports the work of local not-for-profits.  For this year’s Give4Marion campaign, the PEFMC is focusing its efforts on raising scholarship funds specifically for the Teacher to Be program.

The Teacher to Be Scholarship Program provides up to $2,500 in financial support to Marion County Public School non-instructional employees enrolled in college with the goal of becoming a teacher. The Foundation saw an uptick in interest this year for this program.

“The Teacher to Be Scholarship supports ‘growing our own’ teachers,” said Meghan Magamoll, executive director of the PEFMC.  “We had a record number of scholarship applications submitted last week.  When an employee continues their education with the dream of becoming a classroom teacher, we want to encourage and applaud that goal.  The Give4Marion campaign is a great way we can increase scholarship funds to ‘grow’ future teachers in our district,” she added.

The virtual Give4Marion Campaign starts today at 10 a.m. and runs for 24 hours online.  To support the Teacher to Be Scholarship Fund through the Public Education Foundation, online donations can be made at www.pefmc.org and at the Give4Marion Campaign site at https://www.give4marion.org/organizations/public-education-foundation-of-marion-county.
