“Gold Star Teacher of the Year”

MARION COUNTY – Jenny Hoosac, a fourth-grade teacher at Sunrise Elementary School, has been declared the first-ever “Get Your Teach On” (GYTO) Gold Star Teacher of the Year.

Hoosac is a 12-year teaching veteran and a Dunnellon High School graduate.

GYTO is a professional development organization for educators. The organization leads conferences sharing passion and enthusiasm for education while giving tips, tricks, best practices, and teacher secrets to building a successful, engaging, and rigorous classroom.

The nomination-based competition was held nationwide, where Hoosac was the only Marion County Public School representative selected in the Top 25. A GYTO selection committee then narrowed down a Top 10 from which Hoosac was selected as the winner.

As the 2021 Gold Star Teacher of the Year, Hoosac will receive a three-day Disney vacation for two (including airfare and hotel stay), a $200 Imaginex Ears gift card, a $1,000 Really Good Stuff gift card, a College Football Playoff Foundation Extra Yard for Teachers prize pack, and a cash scholarship for her classroom.

The Gold Star Teacher of the Year award was created to uplift educators after the pandemic. GYTO describes the award as a way to spotlight educators who go above and beyond in the classroom, in their community, or in supporting students, their families, and their colleagues.
