This year in Civics we will be studying the principles, functions, and organization of government; the origins of the American political systerm; the roles, rights, responsibilities of United States citizens; and methods of active participation in our political systerm. The course is embedded with strong geographic and economic components to support civics education instruction.
In order for me to do my job (teach) and you to do your job (learn) it is important that the established school and classroom rules be followed at all times. To be successful in my classroom I expect everyone to be on time and ready to work and to treat others as they would like to be treated.
During the year you can expect to have a variety of assignments. You will be expected to keep track of your Howard Middle School binder, which includes our class folder. At this point, we are still waiting for our textbook materials to arrive. School supplies needed on a daily basis include: the Howard Middle School binder, pens, pencils, highlighter, and notebook paper.
Your grade will be based on the following breakdown:
- Homework: 10%
- Classwork/Quizzes: 50%
- Tests/Projects/Presentations: 40%
