Voters elected Nancy Thrower to the Marion County School Board in 2018 and again for a second term in 2022. She has lived in Ocala for more than 30 years and is a special needs educator, small business owner, and community volunteer.

Thrower started her education experience as a special needs classroom aide at North Marion High School in 1997. Her teaching degree comes from Lake Erie College while her Graduate Certificate in Special Needs/Applied Behavior Analysis comes from Penn State.

Thrower favors vocational training, emphasizing citizenship, discipline and academic success, visibility, accountability, and communication as her keys to success. She says building relationships is the best way to solve problems.

Thrower and her husband have three grown sons who all graduated from Marion County public schools. She stresses the importance of family and what it takes to balance career, family, children and volunteering.

Thrower served as vice president of Marions United for Public Education, a grass-roots group largely responsible for voters passing a millage referendum in 2014 to restore arts, music, physical education and other programs to all schools in the community.

Her first term ran 2018-2022 and her current term runs 2022-2026.
