COMPETITION PUTS MARION SCHOOLS SUPERINTENTENT IN NATIONAL SPOTLIGHT FOR SECOND CONSECUTIVE YEAR

MARION COUNTY – Dr. Diane Gullett, superintendent of Marion County Public Schools, is once again in the national spotlight thanks to the Magnet Schools of America (MSA) organization.

MSA is holding its annual National Superintendent of the Year competition. As of today, six superintendents and their districts are in this year’s matchup.

The first round pits MCPS against Seminole County Public Schools (Florida).

Voting is open to everyone and available at https://lp.constantcontactpages.com/sv/mnEpOwe/magnetmaniaround1. Voting remains open through Thursday, Feb. 13 for this round.

Further rounds will put MCPS up against other school districts from Florida, Georgia, New Mexico, and South Carolina.

Last year, Dr. Gullett finished in the top four and participated in a national panel regarding magnet programs. As a result of that finish, MCPS received $500 that benefitted local magnet programs.

The annual competition celebrates the achievements of superintendents who champion MSA’s five pillars of magnet schools: diversity, innovative curriculum and professional development, academic excellence, leadership in high-quality instructional systems, and family and community partnerships.

The winning district will receive $2,500 for their district.
