MARION COUNTY’S HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION RATE INCREASES

MARION COUNTY – Marion County’s high school graduation rate increased to 80.3%, up from 77.9% the previous year.

Statistics released by the Florida Department of Education show the state graduation rate also increased to 89.7%, up from 88% the previous year.

These latest numbers are for the 2023-2024 school year.

All seven MCPS high schools improved their individual graduation rates. MCPS also made progress in two specific student subgroups: Exceptional Student Education (ESE) which increased 3.2%, and English Language Learners (ELL) which increased 3.4%.

Graduation rates are measured in cohorts of students who enter high school and graduate on-time within four years. Because of the review process provided by FDOE, graduation rates are final and not subject to appeal. As well, these latest graduation rates will factor into school grades for this school year.

Florida’s graduation rate is the highest in state history (with exception to 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 which were exempt from state requirements due to COVID-19).

Federal regulations require each state to calculate a four-year adjusted cohort graduation rate, which includes standard diplomas but excludes GEDs, both regular and adult. The U.S. Department of Education (USED) adopted this calculation method in an effort to develop uniform, accurate, and comparable graduation rates across all states.
