LWMS has earned the letter grade of a C for the 2016-2017 school year!
Soaring to greater heights!
Our teachers feel strongly that one of their responsibilities to your children is to help teach them organizational skills related to academic success. For that reason, we have put the following policies in place. While not always popular with students, these measures have been found by teachers to be helpful to students in becoming more responsible, productive students. These policies have also been endorsed by our School Advisory Council. We hope that you will support us as we try to do what is best for our students.
We utilize our binder program to teach students how to set up their binders for all classes in order to keep their learning materials in one, organized place. Students will be trained on what items will and will not be allowed to be kept in their binders. Each subject will be clearly marked by a divider tab and teachers may have students enter smaller sub-sections within their class section. The binder is a serious learning tool and students will be directed to refrain from placing graffiti, stickers, photos, etc. on the spine and front of their binder. They are allowed to decorate the back side with school appropriate decorations. Regular binder checks will be done to insure students are using their binder appropriately. Conduct grades will be impacted for non-compliance. As a convenience for you, we have broadened the list of acceptable binders and have eliminated color requirements.
Since the students will be carrying only one binder, and most textbooks remain in the classrooms, students will not be allowed to carry a traditional backpack. All students may carry a small “sling” bag NO LARGER than 16 x 20 inches that must lay flat when empty. This means it should not have a gusset at the bottom. This small sling bag is not intended to carry the binder, textbooks or other large items. It is intended to carry a library book or other small incidentals. A small zipper pouch may be carried inside the bag for personal items. Purses will not be allowed. A lunch box will be allowed for students who bring their lunch from home.
This school year we are again using the school agenda plan book. It is an effective educational tool which helps students develop better organizational skills, prepares them for school and keeps parents informed about their child’s school responsibilities. The students will be required to fill out their planner with information for each class regarding assignments and tests. The student handbook for LWMS is also included inside the planner. Students should take the planner home to share with parents on a regular basis. Teachers may communicate with you by writing notes in your child’s planner regarding your child’s progress or behavior. I encourage you to communicate with teachers in the same way.
If securing these school supplies will be a financial hardship for your family, please contact your child’s guidance counselor at 671-6120.
A school planner will be provided to every student free of charge.
The following supplies will need to be purchased and replenished throughout the year:
2 1/2 or 3” 3-Ring Binder or 3 –Ring nylon organizer

The administration and staff of Lake Weir Middle School are proud to announce the LWMS Advanced Academic Academy, beginning in the 2017-2018 school year. This magnet program will focus on providing a student-centered learning environment where students will be prepared for the demands of rigorous high school magnet programs. The 6th and 7th grade classes will focus on preparing students to take high school course offerings during their eighth grade year.
