About our School
Sunrise serves students in grades PK through 4th grade. The student population is approximately 900 students with nearly 100% of students qualifying for free or reduced lunch as measured by Community Eligibility Option via the Department of Agriculture. About 12% are students with disabilities, and 20% are English Language Learners. The school has a diverse population in which 78% of it is minority with 41.2% identified as Hispanic.
We are committed to providing students with the highest quality learning experiences that are directly tied to the Florida Benchmarks for Excellent Student Thinking, (B.E.S.T.) This will in turn allow students to not only meet but to exceed their learning goals. Our instructional staff works collaboratively, on a weekly basis, to infuse engaging learning activities into every aspect of our school. Effective lesson design is one of our primary areas of focus as a successful school, and teachers continually receive support from the content area specialists. Also, through our partnership with Discovery Education, our teachers are regularly implementing instructional strategies that put learning in the hands of the students as teachers take a facilitative role.
