Student Enrichment and Interventions
Teachers utilize differentiated teaching strategies to provide enrichment opportunities for their students within the confines of their classroom. Additionally, students are able to experience classes in Art, Band, Chorus, Keyboarding, Agriculture, Business Education, Culinary Arts, Digital Video Productions, Health Occupations, and Technology, as well as participate in Physical Education, while at DMS.
SUPPLEMENTAL AND INTENSIVE INSTRUCTION/INTERVENTIONS
At Dunnellon Middle School, all students scoring at Level 1 or 2 on the FAST ELA PM3 assessment receive intensive instruction in Reading, as required by the State, in addition to their Language Arts class. Additionally, those students who do not have a FAST score are assessed to determine whether or not they would benefit from the Intensive Reading course. If their scores indicate a need for intervention, they will be served, as well. The Intensive Reading classes are designed to address, in a smaller group setting, the students’ individual remedial needs while their on-grade level needs are being addressed in their Language Arts class.
Students who score at Level 1 or 2 on the FAST Math PM3 assessment are served in an Intensive Math class, in addition to their regular grade level math class. This class is designed to address, in a smaller group setting, the students’ individual remedial needs, while their on-grade level needs are being addressed in their grade-level Math class.
