6th and 7th Grade Intensive Math

    Grades 5/1/2020

When you log onto the student portal you will be able to see your grade for the 4th quarter progress report. I am very pleased that some students completed all of their work. However, there were many who did very little or nothing at all. If you completed at least three assignments, I filled in the rest of your grades with a 55. If you did less than three assignments, or none at all, I filled your grades in with a 50. You may make this work up for full credit this entire week. Next week, you may make it up for 90% credit, 80% credit the following week, etc. Please take advantage of this opportunity.

If you were using the link to reach the assignment page please disregard it.

Assignments will be posted this evening,

Marion County Public Schools may record online classroom sessions utilizing third-party platforms (Zoom, Google Classroom, etc.).  These recordings will only be used for educational purposes and may be shared on other learning platforms.  If you do not want your child’s image or identifying information recorded, utilize your device/platform controls to stop the camera feed from your device.

    Students and Parents.

I am glad to be back at work and to be able to provide some content area work for your student. Student work will be posted on the assignment page of my website. Welcome to our new normal. All assignments will be posted to my website which you can reach through marionschools.net All assignments must be returned electronically. If you need a  paper copy of the assignments please let me know and one will be provided for you. There will be a designated time and day whenassignments will be able to picked up from the school. More information is to come on that. Please feel free to reach out with any questions or problems  you may have. There will be a learning curve for all of us on the distance learning.

Your child has been placed in this class to help them learn the foundational skills they are missing or have gaps in. The more they attend class, complete their work, and fully participate and engage in their learning, the more they will succeed. Many students who attend this class and give their full effort earn a level 3 on the FSA and do not need Intensive Math in the next grade.

This is an additional math class for your child; he/she is correct that there is no homework for this class!

If you see a missing grade on the portal it is ok. The * means your child was absent that day and received no grade or that I have not yet entered the grade into the gradebook. That neither helps nor hurts their grade. The more a student is in class, the more likely they are to do well on assessments and classwork.

Please be aware that students must look at each teacher's website in order to get work for that class. I will try to check for submitted work at least once a day. Students may also email me at wendy.varrin@marion.k12.fl.us to ask any questions they might have. Khanacademy.com and IXL.com are two good online sources to see videos and tutorials of skills we are working on. Students will be receiving grades for the work that is submitted. At the present time, all work will be done electronically. In an everchanging world, we are striving to continue the education of our students. Please check the school website for any information that you may need. I will be happy to assist however is possible. Thank you for your continued support.

While school has been suspended, a great way for your child to continue to grow and learn is to have them log in to mobymax.com   - they can go to the Math section and use the Math tile to pick up where they left off. Your child knows their username and password (we have used this website since the beginning of the year so they should remember). If they have forgotten then just email me and I will look it up for you. I recommend they do 45 minutes daily but if you prefer them to do more that's even better.

I hope you stay well and will be back in school soon.

    Ms. Varrin
