We the People
The "We the People" course aims to provide students with the skills that will enable them to assist in overcoming challenges, obstacles, and improving the community in which we live, at the local, state, and national levels. Our vision is for all students to become good citizens and thoughtful human beings.
We the People (WTP) integrates the best of U.S. Government, Economics and Financial Literacy, English 4, Speech, and GWL Research in an engaging yet comprehensive format.
Students will analyze America’s founding documents, such as the Declaration of Independence, the United States Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the Gettysburg Address, and will develop an understanding of American ideals and values, such as equality, freedom, justice and the rule of law.
The course culminates with a simulated congressional hearing in which students demonstrate their knowledge and understanding before community leaders. Upon completion of the WTP integrated course with a passing grade, students will receive a half credit (0.5) for United States Government, a half credit for Economics w/ Financial Literacy, one full credit for English 4, a full credit for Speech 1, and one full credit for GWL Research. (Students will complete the Economics with Financial Literacy course during the spring semester).
