     MEET THE TEACHER

Hello Parents! My name is Mrs. Gilliam. I’m so excited to meet all the teen moms this year! I look forward to meeting their babies and family. I’m passionate about teaching and mentoring my students to help them become confident, capable, and educated mothers for themselves and their babies. My main focus and goal is to do everything I can to encourage my students to reach their goals both academically and personally. I look forward to communicating and working with you to ensure that your child will have all the support she needs to have a successful year.

    EDUCATION/CAREER HISTORY

I graduated from Blandford School of Nursing in Petersburg, VA in 1995. I also studied at the College of Central Florida where I obtained my BAS in Healthcare Administration. I have worked in the healthcare industry for over 20 years. I’ve been employed with MCPS since 2009. I have previously worked as a HCA in the school clinic at Hillcrest School and Legacy Elementary.  I transitioned to teaching for YPP here at MTI in August of 2018. This is my second year teaching for the Young Parent Program.

     ABOUT ME

When I’m not teaching I enjoy spending time with my husband and three daughters. I’m originally from Virginia but I have lived her in Florida for over 16 years now. I GO GATORS!! I love the beach, a good movie, and food. I believe it’s never too late to create and live the life you want to have for yourself.

     WHY I CHOSE TEACHING

Working with the Young Parent Program allows me to combine the knowledge I obtained from working in the healthcare industry over the years with my love for teaching and educating students. I’m particularly motivated to teach teen moms because I too was a teen mom. Working with the Young Parent Program has been a full circle moment for me. I have the opportunity to not only use my knowledge but also my experience as a teen mom to relate and help my students understand that they too can be successful moving forward in life for their future as well as their child’s future.
