Whether students are face-to-face or virtually learning, they will be required to adhere to our class behavior policy:
Bobcat ROAR Expectations:
-Respect myself and others
-Own my choices
-Ready to learn
Students are expected to be in class on time. If your student is entering a virtual classroom, please make sure they are ready to learn and free from distractions. They should not be eating breakfast, playing with toys, playing with animals, or distracted by family members (as much as possible). Please be aware that when a student is not muted the class can hear everything that is happening in your home, which can include: Television, Music, Phone Conversations, dogs barking, and other Conversations happening between family members. If possible, please find your student a quiet place where they can be engaged with their classes, able to complete their assignments, and get the most out of each lesson. It is our goal to help students achieve no matter where that leaning is taking place. So please help us provide your student and their classmates with the best learning environment possible at this time.
Students that are exhibiting behaviors that are not in line with our ROAR Expectations will be redirected the first time, given a warning if the behavior continues, if they do not change the behavior they will go to a yellow light, and finally they will receive a red light. Students that receive three red lights in a nine weeks will have a discipline referral written for their behavior. Red lights will result in a drop in their conduct grade. Please note, there may be some behaviors that can result in an automatic discipline referral, such as complete disrespect to a teacher, threatening teachers and students, as well as, fighting.
It is my hope that every student is going to work hard this year and do their best. I am excited to be your child's teacher and I look forward to building strong relationships with you and your child.

This year MCPS will be using Microsoft Teams through out the entire county. If you have students in different schools, this will benefit you in only having to familiarize yourself with one online platform for each student.
Here is how each student will access Microsoft Teams:
On a side note: Please watch the videos that Marion County has posted on this site to familiarize yourself with the:
MCPS Covid-19 Elementary Orientation Video Orientation Video
Microsoft Teams Training Video Microsoft Teams Training Video
Once you have seen these vidoes:
Have the student click on the MCPS Desktop at the top of the page (on the right)
They will login to the desktop using their Student ID and password.
Once their desktop opens they will see a tile for Office 365. They will click on that tile. This gives them access to their email in Outlook, they can create Word Documents and Powerpoints in this account. The will also see the tile for Teams in purple. They can click on that to open up Microsoft Teams and find their classes.
The students will see a list of tiles down the left side of their screen, they can click into Teams. They will see all the classes "Teams" they have been assigned too.
For Mrs. Gwin's Homeroom Virtual Class they will see a picture of a waterfall with the Name: Language Arts Gwin's Virtual Homeroom for ELA and where they will begin their day.
They will see a square with a picture of deer with the Name: Social Studies Gwin's Virtual Homeroom where they will accesss their Social Studies and Sanford Harmony classes. Follow the schedule I posted so that they are aware of which times to meet in each class.
Mrs. Gwin's Face-to-Face students will see a picture of a wave with the Name: Language Arts Gwin's Face-to-Face to access their ELA class.
They will see another square with a picture of a mountain on it with the Name: Social Studies- Gwin's Face-to-Face to access their Social Studies and Sanford Harmony courses. These teams will be important if they are absent from school.
They will have other squares for additional classes that they are assigned to and will meet these classes according to the schedule the students will be given.
For Virtual students: Once you enter our first class of the day which will be the Language Arts Class, you will see a link to join our meeting. Click on the link and be ready for all the wonderful things you will be learning that day. I will be teaching you how to use our classroom teams on the first day of school.
For Face-to Face students. I will be showing you how to get into Microsoft Teams on the first day of school. Parents can access teams if a student is absent and would like to know what they need to catch up on for the day.
It is important for every parent and student to realize that it is expected that all virtual students will be connecting to their classes each day. Attendance is required, as well as, students to be diligent in keeping up with their classwork/homework. Grades will be taken the same way they are taken for students face-to-face in the classroom. Please monitor your students classes to make sure that they are keeping up and completing their work on time. Also, if you have several students that are virtual learners, it might be helpful to purchase or have them use headphones. This will ensure that they are able to hear the interactions on the classroom and not disrupting other students at home.
I know that this is new to everyone, but please be assured that within a few days, we will all be familiar with this new program and be ready for an excellent school year. Again, Please to do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns:
