ZOOM MEETING TUESDAY, 5/26
Topic: 6th Grade Math
Time: May 26, 2020 10:00 AM Eastern Time (US and Canada)
Join Zoom Meeting
Meeting ID: 946 0504 4658
Good morning! I am beginning to finalize grades this week, so here are some guidelines regarding final grades:
There are 8 assignments in the gradebook. If you have a grade put in for all 8 assignments, that is your final grade! If you are happy with it- you don't have to do anything at all from this point on. Congrats on surviving the 4th quarter!
If you are unhappy with it, please email me! there is an assignment you can do to replace one or two lowest grades.
I am still accepting late work. all work is due 5/27. If there is a * or a 5 in the gradebook, it means assignments for that week are missing and can be made up. If you click on the name of the assignment in the gradebook (ex. Week 3) it will tell you which assignments were due that week. If you complete an assignment late, please email me so that I can fix your grade.
Good morning, you guys!
On Tuesday, May 26th, I will be hosting our final zoom meeting at 10 am. I will post the URL right here in the announcements around 9:45am that morning for security reasons. This is completely optional, and will mostly be meant for connecting with other students. The session should be about 30 minutes long!
Please let me know if you have any questions!
Please check out the tab labeled "Instructions for Distance Learning"! It explains exactly what I expect students to do when completing work for this class.
Just wanted to add a few announcements now that we're done with our first few days of online learning.
First of all - I am so proud of everyone for rising to the occasion and kicking this off! I understand that this can be confusing- but you're doing great so far! We're all learning this together.
At this time, everyone should be signed up for Khan Academy... however that is not the case.
-Right now, about 87% of students in my Advaced section have registered. That's a great start! However, some students have registered with duplicate accounts, so I removed the duplicates that have no progress... If you think I removed you on accident, please let me know! Advanced students (periods 2,3,4,5) can enroll in my class by clicking here. The class code is 9XNZ3EDY
- About 54% of students in my regular classes (periods 1 and 6) have signed up.... That's not gonna fly! If you are in one of my regular math sections, please join my class by clicking here! Class code is 8N7U2Z5Q.
I love that you guys are asking great questions, and i'm glad you've found the discussions section to be useful! However, I would like to set some rules regarding discussions:
1. Please remain respectful while posting in the discussions section. If it is taking too long for a response, bear in mind that teachers have their own lives too and are not available at all hours of the day! If your question is really important, send an email, don't rely on the discussion section.
2. I love that you are finding entertainment in talking to each other... but please use the discussions section only for questions regarding this class... I do get an email every time someone posts, and although the good morning messages are sweet, there are other resources for you to use if you'd like to say hello to your friends.
3. Before posting a question, please read my announcements/other discussion posts. At this point, it's very likely that the same question has already been asked and answered.
4. If it is an important question and you just can't wait for an answer, email me!
5. If these rules can't be followed, I have no choice but to remove the discussion section. It is meant to be used as a tool for you guys to help each other, not as a social media platform!
To receive class updates, including when announcements or grades are posted, sign p for remind 101 by texting the class code "@msgattuso" to 81010!
I've narrowed down my method for grading- and here is how it will work. Grades will be posted every Monday, for the week prior. If you had 4 assignments due that week, I will count 3 of them. As long as you receive above a 70% on an assignment, you will receive full credit for it. If you do all 4 assignments in a week, I will count the top 3 scores.
This week, Periods 1 and 6 will have 2 assignments due (which were assigned on 4/1 and 4/3), so I will count the highest 1. Periods 2,3,4 and 5 will have 3 assignments due, so I will count the highest 2. If you have questions about this scale, please reach out.
Those are all my announcements for now - please email with any questions!
I hope online classes are running smoothly for everyone! I just wanted to address something:
The tab called "PDF Notes Pds ...." is only meant for students without internet access! It contains the notes in a PDF format as well as the SAME assignments that are given on Khan Academy. I uploaded the PDF versions so that they can be accessed and pritned for students who can't access the videos or Khan Academy.
If you are able to access Khan Academy, do not send me pictures of your notes/assignments. Khan Academy automatically records your progress for me so that I can see who completed it.
Check out the tab that says "Remind 101" for instructions on signing up for reminders about this class! Students and parents can both sign up!
So far, 10 students have signed up on Khan Academy and 8 have been sorted into class! That's great! However, I am unable to identify 2 students based on their display names... so I have a task for those 2 students. If your displayname is lampgirlOWO or s3rdga, please email me (email@example.com) saying who you are! That way, I can sort you into the appropriate class, and give you the correct grades for your assignments once that time comes.
So here is what I know so far:
Instruction will begin on Wednesday, April 1st (no, this isn't a joke!)
Distance learning for this class will be a combination of video notes and Khan Academy practice. I won't give you a lot of problems to do, but Khan Academy is a great resource because if you want to have more practice, you can just keep going!
For now, you guys can play around with the website. Get used to it, review some concepts, and make sure your friends also sign up if they're in any of my class periods!
I will be opening a discussions tab on my website. On this tab, you guys will have the ability to post questions that you have... That way, if I can't get back to you in time, others can help as well. Feel free to help your classmates out if you know the answer to their questions! Please just keep in mind that everything on the internet is permanent, and rude comments will not be tolerated.
Until we are given more direction, please feel free to email me (firstname.lastname@example.org)
I do have one last task for you:
If you have any friends in any of my class periods, please check in on them, make sure they're doing alright, and let them know to sign up for khan academy!
Please check my website daily. This will be my main form of communication for the time-being.
IMPORTANT - 3/26
Good morning, everyone! I miss you all so much!
There isn't much certainty about what the rest of the school year holds for us- but I'm determined to make sure that you guys learn all the necessary concepts in order to make 7th grade an easy transition.
What I do know is that until at least April 15th, you guys will be learning remotely through online learning platforms. That date is subject to change.
So here is what I need you to do:
First of all, give your brothers, sisters, mom, dad, or whatever family you have at home with you, a great big hug. (Bonus: hug your pets too!)
Next thing you need to do is create an account on Khan Academy. Now here are some important details:
If you are under 13, Khan Academy asks for a parent email. Please use your parent's email and ask that they approve your account. Onec approved, please use your real name. If you are uncomfortable using your full name online, you can use your first name and last initial (ie. Andrea G) or last name and first initial (ie. A Gattuso). Otherwise, it will be hard for me to distinguish who is turning in what... and that can get confusing with grading.
Periods 2,3,4,5: You can join my advanced section by clicking here.
Periods 1 and 6: You can join my regular section by clicking here.
Once your account is created, hang on tight. Online instruction will not begin until March 30th (I think) so I will be keeping you updated on what we will do next.
If you have any questions at all, please email me at email@example.com
This is a new experience for all of us but I'm positive that we can get through it!
There is a new tab added to my site titled "Distance Learning Instructions"
In that tab, you'll find the same PDF that was given by Marion County Public Schools. It contains instructions for signing up on Khan Academy.
I love you all and hope to see you soon! Stay safe and healthy,
Welcome to Ms. Gattuso's Homepage!
You can find important documents and information under the respective tabs in the navigation bar!
