Welcome! I am Mr. Chitty, and I will be your teacher for 6th Grade World History or for Pre-AP World History for 8th graders. Please note that all of the course materials for both classes can be accessed through Microsoft Teams. Directions to access Teams can be found below.
In 6th grade world history, we will study our world from Pre-History and the Stone Age, through the River Valley Civilizations like Egypt and Mesopotamia, and finish with the Classical world of Greece and Rome. In Pre-AP, we will study Geography then begin our study of history with Christopher Columbus and end with today. We will also be covering some of the main ideas from US History, starting with the first Europeans to come to America and ending with the Civil War. In both classes we will study history through various primary and secondary sources. We will evaluate this evidence to make claims about what actually happened in the past.
Because Liberty is an AVID school, we will be using WICOR Strategies as a part of the Focused Note Taking process to not just copy down new information, but to interact with it and really commit it to memory. This class won't ask students to remember facts about history. Instead students will use the notes and evidence they collect throughout the units to make defensible claims about what we have learned.

Mr. Chitty
I grew up in Columbia, South Carolina and attended the University of South Carolina. I graduated with a Bachelor's in History and a Masters in Teaching. I have been teaching for seven years and this is my first year at Liberty Middle. I have taught both middle and high school and various social studies classes. I am married to a math teacher and have two children. I am excited about being at LMS this year and getting to teach you World History using the AVID framework. It is going to be a great year!
