Welcome to Mr.Alden's Class page for:
6th Grade World History at Liberty Middle School
Hopefully you are all doing well and are staying safe and healthy.
Please bear with me as I try and "learn-as-I-go" and make this portal a useful tool for you and your student.
If you need to contact me for the remainder of this school year you have a couple of options.
1) The tried-and-true MCPS email email@example.com
2) Class Dojo
3) Office Number: 352-358-5300 (I'll get a notice on my phone if I miss your call and I'll get back with you as soon as I'm able)
My official "Office Hours" are 8-9am and 1-2pm. However, with email and phone I'm available to you 24/7/365 and I'll do my best to keep the lines of communitcaiton WIDE so we can figure out the best way to manage this situation together.
For now... the technology resources we will be using include:
Zoom - MicroSoft "Teams" - ClassDojo - YouTube - "CamScanner" App
(I'm looking at Remind and Kahn Academy as well... but one step at at time... I'll update eveyone as things evolve.)
The TextBook is available online through "ConnectEd.McGraw Hill"
I'm doing my best to figure out how to use these resouces myself. We're all a llittle overwhelmed right now...but we will get through this with a little grace, understanding and patience.
Make sure you're signed up with ClassDojo and your contact informaiton is up-to-date with Liberty so they can update SkyWard as needed.
I've also included some resources below that may be helpful.
Please bear with me... a LOT of my content will be very rough, I'm still trying to figure this out, but everything should impove over time.
Be welcome... and enjoy
Marion County Public Schools may record online classroom sessions utilizing third-party platforms (Zoom, Google Classroom, etc.). These recordings will only be used for educational purposes and may be shared on other learning platforms. If you do not want your child’s image or identifying information recorded, utilize your device/platform controls to stop the camera feed from your device.
This is a helpful guide I created to help you change a page of text into a page of notes that can be utilized to intigrate any new information into your existing body of knowledge.
It's a pretty simple "Step-by-Step" process that you might want to short-cut... but remember... it's not about memorizing facts, it's about gaining knowledge.
This resource will help you guide your students by providing you with the planning materials that WE use to plan activities and exercises.
Page: 01 is the unit overview for the whole year. You'll see that were probably going to miss the ENTIRE unit on Rome before the kids are supposed to be back to school (at the earliest).
Page: 29 starts the "Learning Standards" and "Essential Questions" for the remaining units (Rome, Christianity, and MesoAmerica).
Again... this is a resource to help YOU put the course content into context and give you an idea of the kind of quesitons you're student will be expected to be able to answer.
