Welcome to Kindergarten!!
My name is Vincent Newton and I am very excited to be working with you and your child this year. I also hope that I will get the chance to get to know each of you as the year goes on.
I will be working extremely hard to establish our classroom as a happy, challenging, comfortable, safe, learning environment where we all will do our personal best. However, you and your child will be working equally hard to make this year a successful and rewarding experience. I encourage you to take the time to sit down with you child and discuss what they are learning, and reinforce that learning at home.
I believe that each child brings their own unique talents, experiences, and personalities to share in our classroom. I look forward in learning with each child and sharing curriculum with them that is enriching and sparks their interests. They will be provided with instruction in the core-subject areas of English/Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies. The three specials that they will have the benefit of are physical education, music, and art. This year we will be using the Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA) program with our Kindergarten students. The program consists of two strands of instruction. The first strand, the Skills Strand, strives to teach students the mechanics of reading and writing using a phonics approach. As part of this strand, students will learn how to hear sounds in words and write “pictures of sounds,” also known as letters. The second strand, Knowledge, strives to build students’ vocabulary and background knowledge through oral language experiences. As part of this strand, students will listen to stories and nonfiction selections read aloud, participate in discussions, and complete vocabulary work.
One of my goals here is to help create a love of learning.
Since we are all working for the same goal, which is the success of your child, it is important for us to communicate often. We utilize class dojo in our classroom. This is a quick way to know exactly how the day is going for your child. If you prefer, you can contact me by phone at the school at 352-671-6700 with any questions or concerns.
Together, we can make this the best experience for your child. Thank you in advance for your support.
