Distance Learning Announcements

  • Update 8/21: Hello!  I am posting a link to a video that gives a short overview of Microsoft Teams.  This will be the main tool we use in class this year, so it will be good to become familiar with it, especially since most teachers will be using this platform as well.  I have also posted this link in the Microsoft Teams/Online Textbook tab on the left of this page.  We will be going live next week after school starts.  I look forward to seeing everyone next week, online and in person!

  • Update 8/13: Hello!  This is my first update for the 2020-2021 school year.  For those of you who are new to my class, welcome!  This year is going to be a bit different from years past.  My classes will be split between in person and distance learning to start the year.  Of course, that may change at any time, depending on COVID-19.  Due to this fact, all classes, both online and in person, will be fully digital and will use Microsoft Teams as the main learning platform, with students in class in person using laptops in my classroom.  That way, if the county does shut down and go full distance learning, it will hopefully be a seamless transition for everyone involved.  More details will be provided as we get closer to the start of the school year.

Introduction

  • Hello there!  I'm Mr. Obara and this is my website.  You'll be able to find my syllabus, some notes, and other important information that will help guide you through the school year.

I will be using Microsoft Teams, where you'll find more detailed notes through my videos, as well as all assignments.

The course will review the mathematical skills needed for the study of algebra.  Topics include the arithmetic of integers, fractions, decimals, and percents; applications of these arithmetic skills to problems involving measurement, percent, ratio, and proportion; and math study skills.  The introduction to algebra consists of operations on signed numbers, algebraic expressions, solving linear equations and an introduction to graphing. It also includes exponents and polynomials, quadratic functions, and data analysis.
