Mrs. Kapono-Nelson
Aloha! I am a 5-year Howard teacher & proud parent of a Howard Bull alumni. It has also been my honor to be Howard's TEACHER OF THE YEAR in 2017\18. I am a 30-year, veteran teacher having spent 25 of those years at the high school level. This school year will be like no other and we are all in this together. At Howard, our teacher's motto is, "be flexible". I am looking forward to a great year with my students both in the classroom and online. It is my pledge to be there for your students no matter what the venue. I am also a proud, albeit nervous, parent of a Vanguard IB Senior. I know what a heavy decision it was to decide to send her back to school.
My primary goal, as a language arts teacher, is to help your student become an intelligent and effective communicator both in text and verbally. I have an intimate knowledge of what expectations face them in high school. I also bring patience and creativity to the need for solid, higher standardized test scores and how to achieve them. I expect my students to do their school work to the best of their abilities and give me their best effort both in and out of the classroom. Positive attitudes, respectful behavior, a strong work ethic and an eagerness to learn go a long way in getting the best grade possible within my classroom.
I have a syllabus in place that describes the objectives, rules, materials needed, and grading system for our course. You may click on the links along the right side of this webpage to find my syllabus, current and past assignments as well as the Internet links that we will be using during this course. Students in all of my classes will need access to the internet for lessons, practice and to communicate with each other (blogs, projects, etc.).
Thank you for supporting your child’s success. Know that I consider you a vital part of the teaching team. Please feel free to contact me at the email or telephone number listed if you have any concerns, comments, or questions.
