Welcome to Advanced and Regular Earth and Space Science!

  • Due to the Coronavirus Covid-19 pandemic, my classes will be online.  This is a new way of teaching for me.  I am in the process of setting up my classses.  So, in the meanwhile, students will get their assignments for my class, through my webpage.  All work will be under the assignments tab.  If at anytime you have a question, please email me.  My email address is: melissa.doby-jones@marion.k12.fl.us

    Welcome back!

I missed you so much.  At this time, my website is the only place to get assignments for this class, so, please check it daily.  Please check my webpage under the Earth and Space Science Notes and Lessons tab and the Assignment tab for assignments.  Make sure you save all assignments in a file.  When naming your file make sure you always put your name and date of the assigment.  Notes will still be done in the focused note format, so it should be very similar to what we have already been doing.  You can  make a digital copy, scan, or take pictures of your work and send it to me.  Please check your email and my website daily for extra information from me.

I am in the process of setting up email grouping by period.  I am also Creating a Ms. Doby-Jones Information page tab.  I will be using e-texbooks, powerpoints, notes, and videos for instruction along with other types of resources.  I am in the process of inquiring extra information about Microsoft Teams ans Google Classroom.  In the near future one of these may be added to the online learning process for my class.

I am Ms. Doby-Jones and I am your child's 6th grade science teacher.  I am very thrilled to be teaching Advanced and Regular Earth and Space Science this year.  In earth and space science, students study the origin, structure, and physical phenomena of the earth and the universe.  Here on my website, you will find topics that will be covered this year as well as information on major tests and projects that will be given.

Topics that will be covered this year are as follows:

    First Semester

    • Nature of Science
    • Earth's Structure and Energy
    • Plate Tectonics
    • Rock Cycle/Changes Over Time/Human Impact
    • Earth's History
    • Atmosphere

    Second Semester

    • Weather
    • Water Cycle
    • Oceans
    • Space Exploration
    • Solar System
    • Stars and the Universe

Because Earth and Space Science is the study of the origin, structure, and physical phenomena of the earth and the universe, there will be many areas to explore.  This class will be intense, challenging, and rigorous.  My goal is to make this class easy to understand and fun to learn, the standards that will be assessed for mastery.
