My favorite books to read when I was in middle school were any books wriiten by Agatha Christie.  One favorite is "Murder on the Orient Express".  Also any books about horses.  Two favorite horse books are "Black Beauty" by Anna Sewell and "My Friend Flicka" by Mary O'Hara.
