Welcome to Dr. Kerley's Classes
English, more than any other discipline, sharpens one's analytical and communication skills. We will be reading and analyzing a variety of texts (diaries, poems, autobiographies, novels, short stories, etc.) within nineteenth and twentieth century American literature. We will be asking questions about how personal experiences are reflected in literature, how ideas are communicated most effectively through different forms of figurative language, and how tone affects readers and spectating audiences. We will also be learning elements of the English language and what constitutes 'good writing' by studying grammar. My course will be excellent preparation for establishing a solid foundation in writing.
I look forward to working with each and every one of you this year!
To accomplish great things, we must not only act but also dream, not only plan but also believe.
