Ms. Johnston's Fifth Grade Class
Welcome to the 2019 - 2020 school year!
I am looking forward to working with you and your child this year. I will be responsible for teaching mathematics, and science to your child. Mrs. Grace will be teaching language arts as well as the social studies curriculum.
We have a lot of material to cover each day, therefore it is of utmost importance that you child be here as much as possible. Missed days in the classroom equate to missing the lessons taught that day as well. When at all possible please let me know in advance if your child must miss so that I can prepare work in advance and upon the return of your son/daughter they will have less makeup work to complete on top of assignments for that day. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter!
I look forward to a successful year and I know that if each of us does our part to support your child, my student, he/she will have both a successful and rewarding fifth grade year!
That being said, we now are faced with a new issue, this CoronoVirus! I want you to know that I am here to support you and your child as much as I possibly can. You can reach out to me on the Marion County Schools Web address, DoJo, and on the school phone, (352) 671-6110, EXT:52403. I plan to be on campus on Monday and Wednesday of each week except this week. I will be here each day this week to ensure that our technology is working smoothly. This is all new to you as well as me, so I want to be sure things work as expected. I know that by working together, we will get through this!
Beginning on Wednesday, I will need you to do the following things for me:
Send me an email message each morning by 10 a.m. This will be my way of collecting attendance.
Students should be working on i-Ready Math every day. They need a total of 45 minutes on i-Ready math EACH week.
On another note, the textbooks that we have in school are available to you online should you want or need them. My goal is to utilize the online resources that we have available to us and that students are used to using as supplements to my teaching. By doing this, I hope to provide a sense of normalcy to them.
The Assignment page which is below the Course information page, will have information about the lesson/activity title as well as the online pages for students to complete. The online pages can be found by accessing the following website; www-k6.thinkcentral.com. Choose Grade 5 under the Resource heading, then use the drop down box to select Go Math! FL MAFS5 Student Edition, Chapter 11 lessons.
Thank you for your patience and understanding. This is new to all of us and together we will prevail in giving your student the best opportunity that we can to guarantee future success.
Student attendance plays a very important role in your student's success. When a student misses classes, they will miss valuable learning that can not be made up. They will be allowed to make up work in a timely manner if unable to attend school. Please make every effort to have them in class as much as possible.
Be sure to sign you child up for 21st Century after school program! The classes are FREE and are held Monday - Thursday after school from 2:05 - 5:05. Students will receive two snacks as well as a meal. Bus transportation will also be provided. Fun and exciting activities will enrich your child in many subject areas. Homework help will also be available.
Our St. Augustine fields trip is Monday, October 19, 2015. The price to attend is $59.00 per adult admission and $47.00 per student. More information to come.
