Important Update: ECF Chromebooks No Longer Managed by MCPS after June 12
During the 2022 and 2023 school years, Marion County Public Schools participated in the Emergency Connectivity Fund (ECF) project, which allowed us to provide free Chromebooks to students for school and home use. Please note that the ECF Project ended in 2023, and no additional Chromebooks are available through this program.
These devices were monitored and filtered through the district’s network during the project.
As of Thursday, June 12 these ECF devices will be retired from the MCPS inventory. Here’s what this means for families:
- Students may keep their devices for personal use—do not return these Chromebooks to schools
- MCPS will no longer monitor web browsing or provide internet filtering
- The district will not provide technical support or repairs for these devices
- Families will have full control and responsibility for the device, including internet use and safety
- Students who bring their Chromebooks to school after they are released must connect to the Student BYOD network for internet access, as personal devices will not automatically connect to the MCPS network.
We encourage families to set up appropriate home internet filtering and monitor student usage to ensure safe and responsible use.
Reminder: These changes will take effect on Thursday, June 12, when the devices are officially released from MCPS management.
