Marion One of Three Districts Chosen to Pilot
Year-Round Concept
MARION COUNTY – Wyomina Park Elementary School and its 584 students could soon be on what is often called a “modified calendar” thanks to a pilot program approved by Florida legislators and signed into law by Governor Ron DeSantis back in May.
Students would still attend 180 days of school like other students. They would also have about 12 weeks of vacation spread throughout the year instead of concentrated during the summer.
Marion County Public Schools is one of just three districts statewide selected for the five-year pilot program to see if year-round schooling works in today’s society. Specific schools in Alachua and Brevard Counties will also experiment with the idea.
Staff and parents will discuss the concept in a special meeting this Thursday at 5PM in the school cafeteria.
Wyomina Park Elementary School is located at 511 NE 12 Ave. in Ocala.
