MARION COUNTY – Two lone nominations resulted in new leadership for the Marion County School Board this next year.
Board Members Nancy Thrower and Lori Conrad were elected as chair and vice-chair of the School Board, respectively, at an annual reorganizational meeting Tuesday evening.
Both were unanimously supported by their School Board peers, Dr. Allison Campbell, Rev. Eric Cummings, and Dr. Sarah James.
Thrower joined the School Board following her election in 2018 and is now serving her second four-year term thanks to her re-election in 2022. Thrower represents District Four and previously served as chair during the 2020-2021 term and vice-chair during the 2019-2020 and 2022-2023 terms.
Chair Thrower will lead twice-monthly School Board meetings and year-round work sessions. She also serves on various leadership boards throughout the community.
Conrad joined the School Board in 2022, voter elected to fulfill the remaining two-year term of a former member. She represents District Two and is a former Golden Apple teacher at the elementary level.
Conrad also serves various School Board appointments and will step in as needed should Thrower be absent.
By unanimous vote, School Board members also approved the same meeting schedule as in years past – holding Board meetings on the second and fourth Tuesdays monthly at 5:30 p.m. at 1614 E. Fort King St. in Ocala.
