MARION COUNTY – With Marion County Public Schools adopting new textbooks for 16 courses (Science for grades Kindergarten through fifth grade, middle school Earth/Space, Life and Physical, and for Grades 9-12 Biology, Chemistry, Physical Science, Physics, Anatomy and Physiology, Marine Science and Environmental Science), public input can be offered during an open review night scheduled for Thursday, March 28, 2024.
That is when members of the public can physically review potential textbooks and materials being considered by the district adoption review committees for next school year.
The 3 p.m. – 7 p.m. session takes place in Building 20 located on the MTI campus at 392 SE 19th Avenue, Ocala, 34471.
The process involves parents, teachers, and community members reviewing instructional materials. Course-specific committees can involve up to 15 voting members and one non-voting chair including the content area program specialist, up to eight teachers, two parents, and five community members appointed by the Marion County School Board.
Following this public viewing, review committee members will consider public input at their meeting set for April 1, 2024, at West Port High School starting at 6 p.m. at 3733 SW 80 Ave. in Ocala.
Committee members will also vote to recommend titles to the superintendent, who then advances recommendations to the Marion County School Board.
