Artist rending of New Elementary Schools “W” and “X” in Marion County
MARION COUNTY – Marion County Public Schools will break ground on two new elementary schools this Thursday, March 21, in two separate but identical ceremonies.
The first takes place at 9 a.m. for New Elementary School “W” in Marion Oaks. The address for this groundbreaking is 14320 SW 70 Ave. Rd. in the Marion Oaks Community of Marion County.
A second ceremony set for 10:30 a.m. breaks ground for New Elementary School “X” in the Winding Oaks Community at 7200 SW 49 Ave. Rd. in Ocala.
Both schools will be built to accommodate growing student populations in Southwest Marion County and will feature the same design with the following features:
- One-building two-story concrete block construction with enhanced security features including minimal entry points
- Administrative area on first floor, media center on second floor
- Cafeteria area at back of school with art and music suites in between
- Approximately 115,000 square feet
- Serves up to 860 students with 43 classrooms
- Total budget of $47 million per school
- Both schools opening August 2025
The Marion County School Board is borrowing funds to build these two schools and one new high school in Southwest Marion County.
