MARION COUNTY – The Sunshine State School Public Relations Association (SUNSPRA) has named Marion County Public Schools’ (MCPS) Director of Public Relations, Kevin Christian, APR, CPRC, as its inaugural "School Communicator of the Year" for the state of Florida.

SUNSPRA announced the title as the highest award a school communicator can receive at the state/regional level. The honor recognizes the outstanding leadership and contributions of active, front-line school communicators who work full-time in school districts or education service agencies.

A veteran of the school district, Christian has been appropriately dubbed the “Voice of the School District,” as our community has recognized his distinct tone through several forms of media for the last 22 years.

Graduating from Lee University with a bachelor’s in Communication and Media Studies and a master’s in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Miami, Christian began his career with MCPS in 2001 after working as a news anchor and reporter for four years. Since joining the district, Christian has earned his Accreditation in Public Relations and became a Certified Public Relations Counselor, the initials you see after his name.

Christian will now represent the state as he competes at the national level to become the National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA) School Communicator of the Year.
