To qualify for a Florida Bright Futures Scholarship, as required by Florida Law (see Section 1009.53, Florida Statutes), high school students need to complete a program of volunteer service work or paid work service, as approved by the district school board. A student must identify a social or civic issue or professional area that interests him or her, develop a plan for his or her personal involvement in addressing the issue or learning about the area, and, through papers or other presentations, evaluate and reflect upon his or her volunteer service or paid work service experience. If you have any questions regarding your activity, please speak with your school volunteer/work service contact prior to starting.
Career and Technical Student Organization Hours
Senate Bill 240, Section 1003.4282, F.S., outlines that students in grades 6 through 12 may be awarded one high school credit upon providing his or her school with verifiable documentation showing an accumulation of at least 135 hours of participation in Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO activities) that occur outside of regular class time. The 135-hour threshold may be accumulated over the course of one or more academic years in CTSO clubs such as FFA, HOSA and FBLA. These hours must be earned outside of regular school time and may also be accumulated in more than one CTSO. If you have any questions regarding your hours, please speak with your CTE teacher/CTSO Advisor.
