Florida Educators with a 5-year Professional Certificate must renew their certificate during the last year of the certificate's validity period. Educators may renew once they receive a reminder from the Florida Department of Education in July. Renewing early in the year will not move up the certificate’s next validity period. Certificates in Florida are always valid from July 1st and expire on June 30th.
- To renew the Professional Educator Certificate, an educator needs a minimum of 120 in-service points, or the equivalent in college courses, or a combination of in-service points and college courses.
- View this Renewal Information document to learn more about renewal requirements and process.
- Everyone must complete the 20- point requirement for teaching students with disabilities for each renewal.
- Educators who are certified in one of the Reading 40 coverages must complete the 40- point reading renewal requirement.

- Current MCPS employees may submit the $75 fee to MCPS via the Payroll Deduction Authorization Form. Charter employees may submit the $75 renewal fee to MCPS via a personal check or credit card.
During the last year of the certificate’s validity period, former MCPS employees may contact the Certification Department at [email protected] to submit to the Florida Department of Education their in-service credit earned while employed with MCPS. When submitting the Renewal application, if not currently employed in a Florida school district or charter school, select 100 as your district affiliation, and pay the renewal fee to the FLDOE.
