Professional Certificate Renewal Process

Florida Educators with a 5-year Professional Certificate must renew their certificate during the last year of the certificate's validity period.

  1. To renew the Professional Educator Certificate, an educator needs a minimum of 120 in-service points, or the equivalent in college courses, or a combination of in-service points and college courses.
    • Everyone must complete the 20- point requirement for teaching students with disabilities for each renewal.
    • Educators who are certified in one of the Reading 40 coverages must complete the 40- point reading renewal requirement.
    • Educators who are certified in either Educational Leadership or School Principal must complete the 20-point requirement in Florida Educational Leadership Standards (FELS).
