Additional Speech-Language Pathologists Contracted

Thousands of MCPS students require speech therapy as part of their Individualized Education Plans (IEPs). These services are often delivered by speech-language pathologists working independently or through private practices.

School Board members approved a $1.576 million increase for contracted speech services for the 2026–2027 school year, funded primarily through special revenue sources.

This latest approval includes 16 contracted pathologists for next school year, with annual rates ranging from $70,200 to $106,470. These additional specialists are not considered MCPS employees for benefits purposes.

These agreements support the Exceptional Student Education Department in serving 4,000 students, reducing barriers to learning and enhancing students’ overall quality of life.

North Marion High to Receive New Auditorium Lighting

North Marion High School’s auditorium—formerly the school’s cafeteria—will soon shine brighter thanks to a $442,000 lighting upgrade.

The project includes new stage lighting fixtures, modern control systems, and updated wiring. The outdated lighting system will be removed to make way for the new, capital-funded installation.

Allstate Construction, Inc. will manage and complete the work.

Substantial completion is expected before the start of the new school year in August.

Cost of Mental Health Services Increases by $1.5 Million

Under the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act, MCPS must provide individualized mental health services for students requiring Tier 3 interventions.

To remain in compliance, School Board members approved a $1.5 million increase to the annual contract with Ocala Consulting and Prevention, LLC, which delivers interventions through a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS).

The original agreement, approved in 2024, totaled $1 million. With the new increase, the cost has risen 50%.

The revised contract incorporates the additional funding and extends through June 2027.
