Threat Assessment

Schools use Threat Assessment Teams to identify and address concerning behavior before it becomes dangerous. The goal is keeping the school community safe and helping students who may be struggling.

What Does Threat Assessment Do?

  • Identifies behaviors or statements that could be threatening
  • Evaluates the level of concern or risk
  • Develops support and intervention plans
  • Addresses the underlying issues causing the behavior
  • Helps prevent violence, bullying, selfharm, substance use, and other serious risks

Threat assessment is required as part of Florida’s school safety laws, including the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act.

Why This Matters

Threat assessment:

  • Keeps schools safe
  • Ensures students receive support early
  • Helps resolve conflict before it grows
  • Protects potential victims
  • Connects students with services and mental health support
