Resiliency Education

The Florida Department of Education is focused on helping students build resiliency – the ability to cope, adapt, and grow through challenges. This includes teaching important life skills such as problem-solving, perseverance, and emotional awareness.

Beginning in the 2019–2020 school year, Florida added new required health education topics to help students develop strong mental and emotional skills. These lessons grow each year and are designed to be age-appropriate for every grade level.

Required Health Education Topics

These staterequired topics are included in Florida Department of Education rules (Rule 6A-1.094124, F.A.C.):

🧠 Mental & Emotional Health Education (Grades 6–12)

Students are required to receive at least five hours of instruction each year on mental and emotional health topics, including recognizing concerns, seeking help, and building healthy coping skills.

🚫 Substance Use & Abuse Education (Grades K–12)

All students learn ageappropriate lessons about the dangers of substance use and strategies for making safe, healthy choices.

🛡️ Child Trafficking Prevention Education (Grades K–12)

Students receive instruction to help them recognize unsafe situations, understand warning signs, and know how to get help.

These topics help build students’ confidence, safety skills, and emotional strength.
