Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS)

Schools use a system called MTSS (MultiTiered System of Supports) to help every student succeed. This framework uses data to understand student needs and provides different levels of academic and behavioral support based on those needs.

The goal is simple:

👉 Identify challenges early and provide help before problems grow.

 How MTSS Works

  • Students receive support at different levels depending on how much help they need.
  • Schools use proven, researchbased teaching and intervention strategies.
  • Student progress is monitored often to see what’s working and what needs adjustment.
  • Decisions are guided by data, not guesswork.
  • Support is offered for academics and behavior.

Core Beliefs of MTSS

Each school’s MTSS team receives training rooted in these principles:

  • All students can learn and succeed.
  • Early support helps prevent struggles later on.
  • A tiered support system ensures the right level of help for each student.
  • Problemsolving teams make decisions using data.
  • Instruction and interventions are scientifically proven to work.
  • Schools use assessments to:
    • Screen students
    • Identify specific needs
    • Monitor growth over time
